Tip Tuesday: Standing Around Exercise

Tone your body and build strength when you are standing around! Next time you are standing in your kitchen cooking, standing around on the job, or have a few minutes while you are standing in line don't waste it!

1. Stand on one leg for increased balance. It's as simple as that. Challenge yourself from time to time and stand on one leg. Your other leg does not need to come far off the ground, just enough to give your standing leg a challenge. Make sure you do both legs so you build balance equally on both sides.

2. Wall push-ups. Instead of just leaning on that wall, use it! Stand with your feet at a comfortable distance from the wall and do a push up against it. Also try just pushing the wall, the resistance will build your strength as well.

3. Calf raises. Tone your calves while you are standing in place by rising and lowering your heals.

4. Tone your core just by keeping it tight. It helps your overall balance and total body health to have a strong core. Tighten your abdominal muscles while you are sitting or standing around to give them a little challenge.

5. Arm circles. If you have a bit of extra space extend your arms out to your sides at shoulder height and make small circles keeping your muscles tight.
