Tip Tuesday: Natural Sunscreen

I just heard on NPR's Science Friday that you can use essential oils as a natural sun protection. I'm not talking baby oil (fry baby fry) but other types of oils that have fatty acids that can both hydrate skin and block harmful rays.

Out of the several oils that can be uses I found that coconut oil has the highest SPF factor. It's has an SPF of up to 10. Other oils that can be used are avocado oil or jojoba oil. Their SPF factor is lower at about four.

Use this if you hate the feeling of sunscreen on your skin or don't want to use synthetic products on it. Obviously store bought sunscreens provide much higher SPF factors so use what you think it necessary for the length of time you will be out in the sun. But doing this is worth a shot! Here is the website I got my information from, maybe you have one of these oils in your home right now.
