A few months ago I found out about a place that I didn't know existed in Jackson County. It's called the MacCready Reserve. It is an area that was donated by a guy I used to date's grandmother, and it is taken care of by Michigan State University as an extension of their campus.
When I found out about it I wanted to visit, however I never seemed to find the right time or companion to go with. The other day I got the perfect chance.
I drove out to the Dahlem Center to inquire about a job I had applied for. I knew that the MacCready Reserve was very close to Dahlem, and lucky enough to have lots of time on my hands, I decided to finally take a look. My initial intention was to just stop out there, take a look around, then leave. But once I got on a trail I knew I should give myself the opportunity to finish it.
This wonderful, tree crowded area is as close to a dream as I can imagine. It offers multiple, color-coded trails that range from one mile to just over two miles. The trails are nice and wide to accommodate multiple walkers or people with pets. I felt not one bug touch me or one mosquito buzz past my ear, all I could hear were the songs of various birds and the movement of the trees surrounding me.
I hope I've entised you for a little stroll through the MacCready Reserve. I want to get there as much as I can while the getting is good, as I know it is going to be a beautiful fall. That said I could even see bundled up winter walks being pleasant as well.
