I've wanted to be a novelist since I was a teenager. Not necessary one that puts out book after book and makes millions on their writing. I just know I have a novel inside of me and I have to get it out.
I had a serious idea that I was able to start turning into a novel last May. When I was in Morocco I had lots of time to write. And I did. For a while. Even though I love to write, writing a novel is difficult. Thousands upon thousands words coming from only you. And with the Internet right there sometimes it's hard to keep focus.
I wrote a lot during the month of June last year. I stopped for a while due to traveling and picked back up in September because I was trying to beat the clock to finish while I had the time before I came back to the U.S.
My original goal was 70,000 words which would give me around a 300 page novel. I wanted it to be substantial enough. But now I've shortened my goal to 60,000 words, about a 250 page novel and hope that maybe in editing I may add up to 10,000 more.
I've given myself a heightened sense of urgency to finish it now. I am at 32, 269 words (every word counts) Because I am not working much and I have time to devote. I don't like starting things and not finishing them when I know I have the power to.
I just want to get my story out. Editing will be the easy part. I just want to get the difficult part over with. After that, well you'll just have to stay tuned.
