New Years Eve

It's the start of another New Years Eve, at the end of another year, but I can't help but think that this year is different.

I find it easy to say that 2011 was the best year of my life. And optimistically I like to say that 2012 will be the second best. I waited a long time for my dreams to be realized that were realized this year.

My dreams of challenges, changes, experiences, and travels finally happened. Joining the Peace Corps was the best thing I ever did for myself and the opportunities that it gave me outweigh all the cold nights, the lonely nights, the missed holidays, and invasive stares.

Tonight when the countdown to midnight begins I'm going to think of the past and look onto the future simultaneously. I'm sure I'll see moments with my sister Rababe, dancing the night away at summer camp, seeing the Eiffel Tower lit for the first time, and riding around the Scottish countryside on my own. I'll see new adventures in my future filled with new people and old friends, struggles and successes.
